Make Jarv Thin Again

So I’m trying to lose weight. I’ve a lot to lose and there is loads of advice around on that there internet. A lot of it is sometimes confusing and contradictory. I need to lose weight and then not just pile it all back on. I’m posting this as it keeps me accountable.

I’ve been doing this for a couple of weeks and while the changes aren’t noticeable yet on pictures. It’s noticeable in my health. I feel so much better and the big number on the sales and tape measure is coming down.

What’s working for me so far is:

  • Track what I eat and drink. This keeps me accountable if it’s all logged. It’s not even the tracking of calories it’s more the accountability.
  • Have a target calorie deficit. Be under the target calorie amount on as many days as possible
  • Make better choices with eating and drinking. “Make better choices” is the mantra for this whole endeavour. Like the title of this blog, I thought about Make Jarv Thin Again but I’m not sure I’ve ever been “thin”
  • Reduce alcohol intake. I’m not cutting it out completely.
  • Sensible portions and not just eat things because they are on my plate. I’ve started to learn when to stop rather than just trying to finish everything on my plate.
  • Not eliminating treats. I’m doing this as part of a lifestyle change, not a diet. This has to be sustainable and only eating food I hate just to lose weight won’t make it be sustainable
  • Increase walking. I hit my 10k steps target every day. I started with 8k and this week moved it to 10k. I will hit this every day even if it means walking up and down at home.
  • Increase other exercise. There’s a saying I see that is “You can’t out exercise a bad diet” That’s not why as well as losing weight I need to be fitter.
  • Set goals. There must be a reason for doing this rather than just losing weight. I’m not going to share my target weight yet, or pictures.
  • Get more sleep. Better rest equals more energy to do more which burns more calories.

I have set myself a challenge of being able to jog park run without needing to walk or stop by the end of this year. Yes, my fitness was that bad, it will take me a while. I do feel a lot better already though. The improvement in just a couple of weeks in how I feel healthwise has greatly improved.

I’m looking forward to better weather and being able to go on longer walks without it going to rain on me and so I don’t have to laps of the downstairs at home.

So Why am I telling you this? Well, it’s the accountability. If it’s out there then I can’t just stop and go back to stuffing my face with cake, delicious cake. I’m not looking for positive reinforcement. In fact, I’d much prefer being asked If I’m still keeping on with it. Something “How’s the weight loss going fatty”

Do I expect this to always be easy or always see the scales dropping? No there will always be setbacks and I’d rather the weight come off in a manageable way that I can keep it off.

Cheers all

Steve

  1. I really recommend Noom. You can use the food tracker etc for free but the lessons are really good for understanding and accountability. Keep it up mate!
