Making Better Choices – 8 weeks in – 2 stone and 5k

Starting with running, when I say running I mean jogging, running will come later. When I started 8 weeks ago could barely run at all without feeling like I was about to keel over and need a nap.

I knew when I started I needed some sort of goal to help me along and I chose running Parkrun. Probably more jogging than running but by the end of the year I want to be able to jog Parkrun without needing to resort to walking.

I have now registered for Parkrun so I just need to print my barcode and go along. First things first though I needed to actually start running! By the time of the last blog post, I could manage about 10-15 mins before needing to stop. At the beginning of this I was so out of shape 5 minutes running would be enough. By the end of week 5 I’d pushed this to 30 minutes of jogging and in Week 6 managed a full 5km of jogging for the first time, ever. It wasn’t planned I just felt good at 30mins and kept going. Not the quickest time but it’ll get quicker

I probably pushed this a bit soon as I suffered for a couple of days but it feels great to have this under my belt. Thank you for all the massive support I’ve had for this too. It really, is appreciated.

I’ve added in a Lunchtime walk at work to help me get to my 10k Steps per day target more easily without needing to walk more when I get in at home. It also feels better to get away from my desk for a little bit.

Generally, things are going great. Had to give myself a bit of a kick up the backside to get to 10k on sunday after missing 2 days running, but generally going well.

Weightloss

After a quick pace initially losing weight I expected a slow down. I’d rather lose it at a sustainable rate knowing there will be weeks it will fluctuate as long as I can keep the trend downwards to my target I’ll be happy.

I’m not going to go into a week-by-week breakdown, no one’s interested in that but the total lost in the 8 weeks now is 2 stone and 1 pound, 29 pounds in total. This is faster than I thought it would be. I’m not starving myself, I don’t feel hungry and I don’t feel tired so I’ll just keep going.
One downside is lots of things don’t fit anymore so at some point I’m going to have to go clothes shopping. I just want to hold off as long as possible as I’m expecting to have to repeat the process more than once.

So I will just keep going and see where I get to in the next 4 weeks

Cheers for reading, Steve
